Semapedia Tagging

With Semapedia you can hyperlink your physical world with knowledge that matters. To do this you create small Semapedia Tags consisting of a cell-phone readable 2D Barcode that will link others to the content you provide. Or put simply: Mark things like buildings, books, airplanes, cars or whatever with small Semapedia Tags that let others be a entry-point for more information.

Choose a Wikipedia article

Go over to Wikipedia and find an article that you know has an interesting connection with the real world. Once you have found a suitable article, copy its' URL into your clipboard. For example: If you wanted to hyperlink the Empire State Building, you would use this url. Note that Semapedia does also support creating Tags for Wikinews, Wikibooks , Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikipedia Commons, and Wikispecies.

Create your Semapedia Tags

Paste the copied Wikipedia URL into the form below, choose your desired Tag-layout (optional) and hit enter or click the button on the right. You will be rewarded with a set of custom made Semapedia Tags as a printable PDF. Print out this PDF if possible on adhesive paper since you will want to attach the Tags permanently.

Reading Semapedia Tags

Alright! So you have created your own Semapedia Tags or even found one out on the street, sticking on a subway, on a book, on a streetcorner, on an apple. You will need a 2D Barcode Reader software installed on your phone to be able to read the Tags and access the information. Loading a mobile version onto your phone will also require you to go online with your cellphone. Reading a Semapedia Tag is really simple. Since Semapedia Tags comprise of a 2D Barcode Code, you can use either Readingsoftware to decode them.

Install a 2D Barcode Reader

Use our form below to find a suitable 2D Barcode Reader for your phone. You can even have multiple Readers installed on your phone if supported. For owners of Nokia N93 and N80 devices: You are in luck. You have a 2D Barcode Reader application pre-installed on your phones! In any case, you will only have to install a Reader once of course.

Point and shoot the 2D Barcode

All 2D Barcode Reader will use your built-in phone-camera to take a picture of the 2D Barcode you have found. Once you have taken a picture within your running Reader application it takes about one second until you are prompted with the decoded Wikipedia-URL.

Read the Wikipedia Article on the spot!

Once the URL has been decoded from the Semapedia Tag, you can download and read the Wikipedia article on your phone. Note that downloading content over mobile internet involves costs for you. Please make sure to know about your data-plan with your carrier. The Wikipedia article will be a mobilized version of the original. Happy reading!
